Are you impacted by coronavirus and struggling to pay your taxes?
A dedicated HMRC helpline for businesses and self-employed individuals who have difficulty with paying their tax due to coronavirus is now in operation.
The number of the helpline is 0800 0159 559.
The helpline can assist with all taxes, including:
• agreeing a deferred payment date or payment plan
• suspending debt collection proceedings, and
• cancelling late payment penalties and interest.
2,000 HMRC staff are available on the helpline. We have already called it this morning and they answered reasonably quickly.
The outstanding debt needs to initially show on your HMRC account (for example for VAT, the VAT return needs to be filed so they know what amount is payable), before any formal agreement can be made regarding a payment deferral or payment plan, without facing any surcharges or interest fines. It is important to note that HMRC should be contacted in advance of the payment date, so the necessary actions can be taken. HMRC are currently awaiting more guidance from the Government which they think will come either this week or next week at the latest.
Below is additional guidance from the Government on measures already announced to help businesses during these unprecedented times.
If you need any additional help or guidance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The Griffin team are here to help. If you have any questions or need any help with anything, please get in touch on 01404 41977 or 01392 241228, or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
