Academies have a number of DfE reporting requirements. As sector specialists, our Academy Accountants have lots of experience of preparing these DfE returns and ensure our clients file all returns before the due date.
Annual Accounts Return
Due date for filing: January
The DfE releases a new Accounts Return template annually in September each year. Academy trusts need to obtain from their external auditors an assurance report on the preparation of the accounts return.
We can either prepare the return on your behalf or simply provide an independent assurance report on a return you have completed yourself.
Budget Forecast
Due date for filing: July
Academy trusts must monitor and manage their own budgets to ensure effective financial oversight of public funds. The DfE reviews academy trusts’ budget projections and actual results to assess financial health and to ensure the estimates of the future funding requirements for academies are accurate. In order to do this, the DfE requires all academy trust to submit annual budget forecast forms, providing the expected outturn for the year and forecasts for the following year.

Teachers’ Pensions Audit
Due date for filing: September
Every April the Teachers’ Pensions Scheme will provide you with a blank End of Year Certificate (EOYC) with the figure of Contributions Received by Teachers’ Pensions in the year. This form should be completed information from your payroll reports, audited and submitted by the last working day in September, along with an Auditors Certificate.
Our Accountants are very experienced in preparing and auditing the EOYC. We provide our clients with a detailed list of what information we will require, so they can be prepared and we can complete our work with as little disruption as possible.
